Lakshmi Narain College of Pharmacy (LNCP), Bhopal, organised an expert talk on World Cancer Day, themed “United by Unique.” The event was graced by two esteemed speakers, Dr. Yogeshwar Shukla, Onco Surgeon at JK Hospital and LN Medical College, and Dr. Rakesh Mahawar, MDRT Consultant in Oncology, Chemotherapy, and Palliative Care at JK Hospital.
The primary objective of the session was to sensitize the youth towards patient care, particularly cancer care.

Dr. Yogeshwar Shukla, a distinguished Onco Surgeon provided insightful information on the evolution of treatments for oral cancer and breast cancer, highlighting the advancements in medical science that have significantly improved patient outcomes. He emphasized the importance of early detection, advanced therapeutic approaches, and personalized medicine in combating these diseases.

The talk covered
• Oral Cancer: Causes, risk factors (such as tobacco and alcohol consumption), symptoms, and latest treatment strategies, including targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
• Breast Cancer: Importance of self-examination, mammography screening, hormonal therapy, and innovative surgical techniques in improving survival rates.
Dr. Rakesh Mahawar emphasized the importance of preventive measures and urged females to get vaccinated for cervical cancer. Sir also emphasised the importance of preventive healthcare, particularly in the context of cervical cancer. He highlighted that vaccination against Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a crucial step in preventing cervical cancer, urging females to get vaccinated at an early age to significantly reduce the risk. He also discussed other preventive measures such as regular screenings, early detection, and lifestyle modifications to combat various forms of cancer.

The talk covered:
• Cervical Cancer Prevention: Importance of HPV vaccination, regular Pap smear tests, and awareness about symptoms.
• Preventive Measures in Oncology: Role of lifestyle, diet, and early diagnosis in reducing cancer risk.
The event commenced with a formal welcome by Dr. Parul Mehta, Director of LNCP and the convenor of the event. She provided insights into cancer, its consequences, and the necessity of awareness. She encouraged students to recognize the importance of early detection and preventive care in combating cancer.

With an audience of over 200 students and faculty members, the session proved to be highly informative and engaging. A question-and-answer session followed, where the experts generously addressed all queries from the participants.

The event was successfully coordinated by Mrs. Payal Saiju and Mrs. Kajal Sharma, ensuring its smooth execution. The expert talk was an enriching experience, spreading awareness and reinforcing the need for proactive measures in cancer care.
