World Earth Day , Planet vs Plastic : The infiltration of plastic waste into the environment constitutes a growing challenge for people and ecosystems across the globe, according to Mrs Sangita Saxena, Director – WWF , MP & CG at a seminar hosted & organised by Quest Nature Club of LNCT GROUP in association with IIC , LNCT&S at LNCT&S .She said “Plastic waste is currently the greatest challenge of implementing the circular economy model that allows the use of waste as resources such as new, more sustainable raw materials”. She addressed the current challenges and opportunities relating to the management and recycling of plastic wastes.
Mrs Saxena shared research results on how plastic and microplastic trash interacts with virtually every other ecosystem, impacting water resources all over the world.
“If plastic is disposed of properly there would be no problem with it. There is a need for society to do away with the habit of littering. India has the highest recycling capabilities in the world yet we have a lot of issues. Disposing of plastic properly would end 80% of the problems,” Mrs Saxena said.
Mr Shashank Dubey, Sr Education officer at WWF-India informed students regarding youth engagement and volunteering opportunities in Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh. Projects including DFF Festival, ECHO, Tide Turners Plastic Challenge were briefly discussed. Alongside previous volunteering achievements with LNCT GROUP were much appreciated by WWF-INDIA state team.
